Do trees sleep at night? No, trees do not sleep at night, however they do need the darkness. During the day trees perform photosynthesis and store the energy as food in the form of glucose. Photosynthesis is when trees take in the light from the sun and turn it into food. At night trees are busy at work doing cellular respiration, converting the food/glucose into energy that the trees need to live and grow.
Does light pollution and street lights affect trees? When light is on a tree day and night the tree is fooled and is only performing photosynthesis and never gets a chance to use the food and make energy. Having light on the tree 24/7 will slow down the growth of the tree. Light pollution is created by man-made lights at night. Oftentimes I see trees that always have light on them in my town and I wonder how they are doing. As you can see the night and darkness are vital to a tree’s survival.
