Hot Summer Days vs Plants

If you are hot and thirsty, think about your plants absorbing the sun all day. Without water a tree or plant can’t properly make food. That is why on extra hot days we give our plants extra water so they do not wither and or die. Not having enough water can cause the tree or plant stress and it can become susceptible to disease and insect infestations. When watering your plants or trees you should water at the base of the plant or tree in a circle around the root zone of the tree. The roots can go out past the drip line of the tree or farther than the furthest branch. Most of the fine roots are in the top layer of soil, so you can add a layer of mulch. The mulch should be 2-3 inches deep. The mulch helps the soil hold the moisture and helps regulate the ground temperature. As you can see it is important to give your plants extra water on hot, sunny days and not to water the leaves.
