Planting

Do you know how to plant plants and trees? Well first you’re gonna need a shovel, a hatchet if you have rocky soil, a small shovel-like tool that has a jagged edge on one side to score the roots, and the plant you’re planting. Then you need to dig it in an appropriate size hole by looking at the height and width of the bucket the plant is in. Next, you will need to carefully pull the bucket off of the plant and score the roots. To score the roots take your tool and softly slice the roots going vertically. Continue scoring the roots all the way around the rootball. You will then need to place the plant in the hole and use your hand to fill in and pat down the soil around the plant. Finally, water your plant and if you wanted you can mulch the area/bed around the plant.

As you can see there are many steps in planting plants. All the unloved and unwanted plants and trees come to my house a.k.a. Mike’s Plant and Tree Rescue. So far we’ve rescued a dogwood tree that was unloved and unwanted, ligularia, tiger lilies that got eaten by deer, echinacea that was eaten by rabbit, and many more to come! As you can see, we love plants and trees a lot and will always make room for them in our landscape.
