Have you ever been to a tree climbing competition? And do you know what events are in a tree climbing competition? A tree climbing competition holds a series of events including the Ascent Event, Balayed Speed Climb, Throw Bag, Ariel Rescue, and the Work Climb.
In the Ascent Event you can use the rope locking system to get up the tree then use your hand to ring a bell. To win the Ascent Event you have to be the fastest to get up the tree and correctly tap the bell.
In the Balayed Speed Climb you have to climb up the tree the fastest and ring a bell using your hand to tap the bell. To win you will have to be the fastest and the safest.
In Throw Bag you have to throw the throw bag through a V in the tree and remember to say “clear”. The higher and more complicated Vs in the tree are worth more points. To win you have to earn the most points within the time limit. To complete this event you have approximately seven minutes.
In the Aerial Rescue you have to save the dummy correctly, safely, and quickly while talking to the victim/dummy. Remember to contact emergency services and complete the task in approximately seven minutes. To win you have to bring the victim to the ground, do it safely, and talk to the victim/dummy and your groundsman.
In the Work Climb you have to complete all events listed within the time limit, correctly, and safely.
-limb walk and tap bell with handsaw
-limb walk and tap bell with polesaw
-limb walk and wood toss onto target on the ground
-limb walk controlling weight/ ball not to go down past a certain point
-descend out of the tree and land in the target circle.
To win you have to complete this event in approximately 7 minutes and complete it correctly.
As you can see you have to be skilled to compete in a tree climbing competition. To win the entire tree climbing competition you have to have the most points overall then you will proceed to a final challenging work climb including throw bag.
If you ask me what I think about tree climbing competitions I’d say you have to be very skilled and talented, it is very cool, and amazing. If you ask “Who should attend a tree climbing competition?” The answer would be anyone who is interested in climbing and or trees.
