Trees for Bees

Did you know the bee population is going down fast due to disease and pesticides?Even if you don’t like bees, they’re vital to all life on earth, and support the entire food chain, so we have to help! Bees are so important, because they pollinate plants which equals food for us and the animals! But what can you contribute to help the bees?

Well, you should plant native and blooming trees for the bees! There is a variety of trees you can plant for bees, but some of the best are apple trees, fruit trees, Linden trees, Black Locust trees, and Sourwood, although there are more. These trees are amazing for bees as they provide a steady source of nectar and pollen, so they can feed on it. While the bees are around they are pollinating other plants allowing them, as well as us to survive!

So when you’re coming into spring, you should look for and plant these trees. To help you identify them, look for their flowers. For the Linden Tree look for a yellowish white colored flower in groups of 5 to 10. Expect to see cream, white flowers, in hanging clumps from the Black Locust tree, this flower is so beautiful and hard to miss in May. The sourwood flower is so pretty because it’s a small flower and is a bell shaped blossom hanging in clumps. This is one of the bees’ favorite trees, so this is the way to go when planting.

One of the most widely known and favorite trees, by bees and people, is the apple tree. The apple trees blossoms are extremely beautiful for it is a white or pink flower with lovely petals, usually five on each blossom. These flowers also grow in groups and are a wonderful site to see.

Make sure to be careful when planting a tree and I recommend not using pesticides because they put chemicals on your tree and can cause too many bee deaths! You don’t want to eat honey with pesticides in it do you?

Overall, it is so important that we help the bees, for they are lovely animals and support the entire food chain.
