A significant storm caused a large oak tree to fall on top of a house in Bergen County, located in northern New Jersey. The tree was compression loaded against the back of the house. The tree damaged portions of the house, rear upper porch area, roof and gutters upon impact. Extreme care had to be taken when removing the portion of the tree against the house to make sure no further damage was done due to the compression loading of the tree against the structure.
A 65 meter ton Palfinger crane equipped with Mecanil grapple saws was used to remove the tree and tree parts off of the structure. A plywood road was installed on the driveway before the crane was driven on it to protect and preserve the property. Plywood and outrigger pads were also installed under the cranes stabilizers to protect the surrounding turf. Once the crane was set up we used the Mecanil grapple saw to grab, cut and then hold the tree parts to safely lift them off of the house. Before the trunk portion of the tree could be cut free from the house a support and lifting system had to be installed under the trees trunk to lift it off of the house.
Once the trunk was free and clear of the house we continued to use the grapple-saw to cut the tree parts back as far as we could until we reached the grapple saws maximum diameter cutting capacity. At this point we switched over to a lifting hook and used slings to move out the rest of the trunkwood from the backyard to the front for further processing. The slings were installed and the cuts were made from the safety of a spider lift.
As the tree parts were lifted off of the house and out of the rear yard with the crane they were placed in the driveway. From here the tree parts were moved with a skid steer and grapple to our 18” diameter wood chipper for further processing. The chips were hauled away to a green waste recycling facility and the larger diameter logs were staged in the front yard to be picked up by a log truck the following day.
Next we cleaned off the roof and gutters of the house and installed tarps for a temporary roof repair to the compromised areas. The entire job site was then thoroughly cleaned up.
“I can define this company’s service with three words: Impressive, Incredible, and fascinating. I got the perfect and awesome service I needed from Mike and his team in my most troubled time after Hurricane Ida. With incredible dedication and professionalism, they worked for hours without rest and did not stop until all the work was done. We got tired watching them, but they didn’t even make the slightest complaint. In the end, they did an excellent and impressive job. In my opinion, Mike and his team are the best tree experts in New Jersey and they deserve all the praise and appreciation. It was a great pleasure working with them.”
