A large Oak tree with codominant stems split in the rear yard of a Bloomfield home during a significant weather event. We went out to the job site and assessed the job and determined that the safest and most efficient removal option would be to use our PK 65 Palfinger Grapple-saw Crane truck.
We then mobilized the equipment to the job site. Upon arrival we delineated our work area with cones and then went about setting up the crane. Outrigger pads and plywood were installed under the stabilizers to protect the roadway. Once the crane was set up we installed ropes and ratchet straps to the tree to support both sides of the tree from separating further. This was an effort to reduce the risk of total failure while we were actively working on the tree.
We began the removal process by using the Mecanil SG280 grapple saw to remove all of the limbs off of the tree and then removed as much of the trunk wood as we could until we reached the maximum cutting diameter of the grapple saw. We then switched over to the hook and slings and had a climber make the final cuts to dismantle the rest of the trunk.
The brush and logs were all lifted out of the yard and landed in the road. The brush was moved around on the ground with a skid steer and then processed with our wood chipper. All of the green waste was brought to a recycling facility. Then we completed a final walkthrough of the job site to make sure the site was cleaned up spotlessly of all associated tree debris from the tree we worked on.
